We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced medicinal chemist with a demonstrated track record of successes in drug discovery and synthetic organic chemistry. This person will provide leadership in the discovery of drug candidates though advanced medicinal and synthetic organic chemistry and help manage external resources in support of Scorpion’s projects from hit ID to development candidate identification. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with a skilled group of scientists representing medicinal chemistry, computational chemistry, biology, structural biology and other disciplines to advance programs to the clinic.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Closely partner with a chemistry project team leader to drive all chemistry aspects of a drug discovery program.
  • Collaborate with other medical chemists and computational chemists in the design of novel compounds that address the project target candidate profile.
  • Analyze emerging project data and leverage a deep understanding of synthetic and medicinal chemistry to devise and implement creative scientific strategies to solve project issues.
  • Lead or co-lead and manage a team of external synthetic chemists, applying the best available compound synthesis strategies, to prepare high value compound targets.
  • Collaborate with project teams to identify discover quality development candidates in an efficient and rapid manner by helping define issues, screening strategies, experiments and influence team direction.
  • Proactively monitor, propose and implement the best medicinal chemistry approaches for Scorpion programs by staying abreast of advances in the field.
  • Maintain excellent communication across internal and external team members.
  • Proactively communicate strategy, critical issues and recommendations to enable appropriate resource decisions.
  • Serve as a scientific resource to the company who will champion new technologies/ideas to enhance capabilities.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • MS or PhD specializing in synthetic organic synthesis with 8+ years of experience or 3+ years of experience in industry, respectively, supporting the synthetic and medicinal chemistry of drug discovery projects.
  • Experience managing and interacting with synthetic chemistry CRO’s
  • A strong record of achievement with a broad understanding of synthetic and medicinal chemistry as evidenced by contributions to drug programs.
  • Understanding of other drug discovery disciplines (e.g., biology, safety, PKDM, etc.).
  • Proficient skills in the use of structure-based or other computer-aided design tools.
  • Experience participating on a team that has advanced compounds to clinical development is preferred.

We are seeking a highly driven Senior Scientist to join our dynamic drug discovery team in South San Francisco. The successful candidate will be a proven expert in the design, development and execution of biochemical and cellular, activity and binding assays. This role will contribute to the growth of Scorpion’s research portfolio by developing assay strategies to advance the discovery of novel precision oncology therapies. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contributes to the design of in vitro pharmacology strategies in support of drug discovery projects to determine potency and selectivity of small molecules to understand their SAR and mechanism of action.
  • Translate proof-of-concept assays into high-quality, microtiter plate-based biochemical & cellular assays that have been optimized & validated to meet predefined standards of performance.
  • Develop sensitive robust biochemical and cell-based assays, troubleshooting experimental design, optimization of assay sensitivity.
  • Contribute to conversion of assays into miniaturized high-throughput (HTS) format.
  • May manage external FTEs and troubleshoots methods at CROs.
  • Initiate investigation of new experimental approaches to a wide range of problems using scientific theory and technical literature.
  • QC and analyze data & document all findings & discoveries in an electronic lab notebook in a timely manner.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in biochemistry, biology, biophysics or a related field with 3+ years of industry experience.
  • A deep and broad understanding of the development, validation & execution of a wide array of binding & functional activity-based assays such as AlphaScreen, TR-FRET, HTRF, ELISA, Nano BRET, FP, etc.
  • High technical proficiency in implementing protocols for multi-modal plate readers (e.g., Envision, Neo, Pherastar), liquid handlers (e.g., Multidrop, acoustic dispensers, digital dispensers) & other automated laboratory equipment (e.g., stackers/plate hotels, robotic arms, incubators, etc.).

  • Ph.D. in computational biophysics/chemistry/physics or related fields with 4+ years of project support in a pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology environment.
  • Extensive experience with molecular simulation techniques of proteins and protein/DNA complexes.
  • Demonstrated contributions to drug discovery projects through the application of computational biophysics and chemistry techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to program in Python or C/C++.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contributing and collaborating with a team of scientists and managers by managing day-to-day operations of a first-class laboratory.
  • Overseeing the Boston On-site Operations Staff.
  • Helping to streamline processes and set-up systems that keep a fast-growing company operating efficiently.
  • Developing laboratory guidelines; maintaining procedures manuals; and/or evaluating new materials and equipment.

We are seeking a highly motivated Computational Biologist with substantial experience in mass-spectrometry informatics to join our Data Science team in Boston.  The successful candidate will lead methods development for mass-spectrometry based proteome-wide chemical screens data analysis. This role will provide exposure to multiple phases of drug discovery and an opportunity to work with computational chemists, structural biologists and machine learning experts to make a computational drug design a reality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze data from high-throughput chemical libraries/proteome interactions screens.
  • Build and perfect informatics pipeline for mass-spectrometry based proteomics.
  • Work in close collaboration with scientists from chemical biology group actively contributing to research, methods development and experimental design.
  • Provide interpretation and analysis of results and present findings in cross-functional project team meetings.
  • Adhere to reproducible data science best practices.
  • Maintain excellent communication across internal and external team members.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in quantitative scientific field and 5+ years of professional experience.
  • Experience in development of computational methods for processing and extracting biological data from mass-spectrometry based proteomics datasets.
  • Understanding of current state-of-the-art methods for mass-spectrometry based proteomics data analyses and their underlying statistical principles.
  • A strong record of achievement, including publications in high-impact journals.
  • Strong coding skills, fluency in using Python and/or R for complex data analysis.
  • Experience with AWS compute environment is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Java is a strong plus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain internal web-portal to enable data discovery, visualization, and analysis.
  • Work closely with company scientists to gather and implement feedback.
  • Adhere to code documentation and version control best practices.
  • Maintain excellent communication across internal and external team members.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of professional experience in software development.
  • Strong coding skills, fluency in Python and Javascript.
  • Experience in front-end development using React, Angular or any other modern framework.
  • Experience in SQL database enabled back-end development.
