We are seeking a highly motivated research associate to join our dynamic drug discovery team.  This candidate will serve a critical role in establishing and running in vitro bioassays, particularly biochemical assays, to help drive our small molecule drug discovery programs.  This position is ideal for a talented, highly motivated and results driven individual who will thrive in a fast-paced, innovative, start-up environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Developing robust biochemical assays for compound profiling, high-throughput screening, and mechanistic studies.
  • Providing small molecule target modulation data throughout different stages of drug discovery programs.
  • Designing and executing experiments to study the mechanism of inhibition of small molecule inhibitors.
  • Drafting assay protocols/SOPs.
  • Managing internal and external assay data, recording experiments and uploading data into electronic lab notebook.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S./M.S. in Biochemistry, Biology or a related field, with 3-5 years experience (Research Associate) or more than 5 years experience (Scientist) supporting drug discovery projects.
  • Commitment to the highest-quality research with outstanding organizational abilities and scientific execution.
  • A deep and broad understanding of protein biochemistry, mechanistic ezymology and enzyme kinetics.
  • Experience in biochemical assays with a variety of detection methods in 384 and 1536-well plates.

We are seeking a highly motivated cancer biologist with substantial experience in RNA homeostasis to join our team in South San Francisco.  The successful candidate will play a key role in target validation and early-stage drug discovery by developing and implementing a variety of biochemical and cell-based methods to elucidate target function and enable small molecule screening efforts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead from the bench in the design, development, and implementation of robust enzyme- and cell-based assays to characterize the effects of compounds on RNA editing and RNA processing
  • Guide target validation activities and safety assessment using functional genomic and small molecule tools
  • Oversee the generation and analysis of high-quality experimental data to identify and confirm the mechanism of action of lead compounds
  • Collect, analyze, and summarize data for presentations, reports, publications, and patents
  • Interact cross-functionally and provide scientific leadership on preclinical project teams
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of new technologies and relevant scientific advances in RNA homeostasis and its role in cancer from literature, scientific meetings, and professional network
  • Apply knowledge and experience to influence cross-functional teams in solving problems and evaluating new technologies

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. and Postdoctoral training in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field
  • 4+ years professional experience, industry experience preferred
  • Hands-on experience with enzyme and cell-based assays typically used to study RNA editing, RNA processing and RNA modification
  • Knowledge of the role of RNA homeostasis in cancer
  • A strong record of achievement, including publications in high-impact journals
  • Exceptional scientific rigor and commitment to the highest-quality research with outstanding organizational abilities and scientific execution

The Head of Information Technology will be responsible for determining current and future Enterprise Information Technology vision, operations, and execution. This role will oversee the design and implementation as well as maintenance and support of information systems that support the enterprise infrastructure of the organization. This includes overseeing Scorpion’s nationwide network, communications, storage, data center, end-user computing and service desk operations; setting R&D and G&A architectural directions for the organization and aligning to meet regulatory-compliant global business needs, ensuring flexible, modern technologies to support various compliance, privacy and security policies and procedures. The role includes providing world-class IT Operations and Support Services to maximize data center (cloud), regional sites/offices, and global end users’ capabilities. The role encompasses a mix of hands-on implementation as well as managed services provider (MSP) oversight.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set the mission of the information technology organization to foster a business-oriented mind-set, driven by continual service improvements
  • Manage the development of infrastructure sourcing strategy and provide executive oversight for strategic vendor, managed services provider (MSP), and partner relationship management
  • Ensure reliable 24/7 operations in partnership with MSP by defining IT infrastructure architecture, as well as standards to include disaster recovery, security, storage, servers, monitoring, performance, and back-office systems
  • Provide direction on which new technologies should be assimilated, integrated, and introduced by staying up to date on emerging technologies
  • Interface with internal legal & compliance teams where necessary

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of Information Technology experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information systems management, or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience leading positive change, empowering people, cultivating product technology visions and innovative solutions while fostering effective architecture/technology and operational practices culture
  • Experience with cloud-based architecture design and implementation; for example, but not limited to, Amazon Web Services and Azure
  • Experience with maintaining and growing high performance scientific computing infrastructure, both cloud-based and on-premises; familiarity with industry best practices for such architecture
  • Experience in deploying and maintaining life science applications, including Electronic Lab Notebook/Laboratory Information Management Systems (ELN/LIMS) systems & data analytics applications
  • Familiarity with RESTful Web Services, XML, JSON, and application development tools

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contributing and collaborating with a team of scientists and managers by managing day-to-day operations of a first-class laboratory.
  • Compound Management: using the Echo Liquid Dispenser to prepare Assay Ready Plates, shipping to CRO’s when needed, handle receipt of compounds for drug discovery programs, manage onsite compound inventory.
  • Importing Data into Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)

The Data Science team is looking for an exceptional scientist who can develop and integrate cutting-edge cheminformatics solutions and is an enthusiastic cross-functional collaborator. This is a unique opportunity to help build integrated data science solutions in a drug discovery setting. This person will work closely with medicinal chemistry, proteomics, and the data science team to identify opportunities to apply data analytics and machine learning techniques to enhance the Scorpion platform and contribute to our drug discovery pipeline.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with drug discovery teams to drive data generation, analytics and model development to predict molecular properties
  • Collaborate with the proteomics and Scorpion Library design team to develop machine learning models to predict compound reactivity, cysteine reactivity, identify privileged scaffolds, and contribute to library enhancement campaigns
  • Contribute to the further enhancement of the Data Science platform and infrastructure (generative chemistry, transfer/multi-task learning, multi-objective optimization)
  • Develop custom analytics solutions to enable drug discovery project teams
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in advanced machine learning approaches
  • Pro-actively identify external datasets that could enhance internal datasets for predictive model development

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in a scientific field coupled with informatics experience, or computational sciences
  • 3+ years of experience supporting and impacting drug discovery teams
  • Expert knowledge of 2D and 3D chemical structure analysis and representation
  • Experience building and validating classification and regression predictive models
  • Comfortable using cheminformatics and data analytics applications such as RDKit, TIBCO Spotfire and KNIME
  • Expertise in a subset of open-source machine learning platforms, such as TensorFlow, Pytorch, Pandas, XGBoost, DeepChem or Scikit-Learn is highly desired

We are seeking a highly motivated, highly experienced medicinal chemist with a demonstrated track record of successes in drug discovery and medicinal chemistry.  This person will provide a leadership role from target selection through hit discovery and optimization of drug candidates by leveraging her/his advanced medicinal chemistry knowledge and managing external resources in support of Scorpion’s projects. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with a skilled group of scientists representing medicinal chemistry, computational chemistry, target and project biology, structural biology and other disciplines to identify new targets and hits and advance programs to the clinic.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Co-lead the new target hit identification team to advance new programs to hit-to-lead and beyond.
  • Closely collaborate with the target biology co-lead in the prioritization of new targets, the design and execution of appropriate screening strategies, the validation and triage of screening hits, and the initial SAR exploration around these hits.

We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced research Project Leader with a demonstrated track record of success in leading oncology small molecule projects from discovery into early clinical testing. He/she will be accountable for setting project strategy and leading project execution with the goal of advancing clinical candidates with compelling data packages in line with our overall corporate goals.

The successful candidate, along with a chemistry colleague, will lead a multi-disciplinary project team to drive oncology small molecule drug discovery from inception into the clinic. He/she will define the path to drug discovery from target validation to candidate selection through leveraging internal and external resources. The candidate must have demonstrated experience in all aspects of identifying, characterizing and advancing high-quality drug candidates into first-in-man clinical trials, including defining biomarker strategy, patient stratification, and proof-of-mechanism endpoints. The candidate will be expected to develop strong, collaborative partnerships within the company, with academic investigators associated with the company, and with CROs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrable hands-on experience in all aspects of advancing small molecule drugs through lead optimization to candidate selection, with broad knowledge across multiple disciplines including pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, medicinal chemistry, ADME and toxicology.

We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced in vivo pharmacologist with experience developing and utilizing mouse tumor models to support oncology drug discovery in an industry setting. He/she will be accountable for planning and executing in vivo pharmacology studies to support the optimization and identification of development candidates with compelling data packages to support first-in-human clinical studies.

The successful candidate will lead in vivo pharmacology activities to drive oncology small molecule drug discovery from in vivo target validation, through lead optimization to translational studies supporting early clinical development. He/she will use internal and external resources to identify and develop appropriate in vivo tumors models that represent target dependence, tumor genetics and indication and leverage these models through each stage of drug discovery. The candidate must have demonstrated this experience in an industry working with multidisciplinary projects team in advancing high-quality drug candidates into first-in-man clinical trials.  The candidate will be expected to develop strong, collaborative partnerships within the company, with academic investigators associated with the company, and with CROs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and lead the execution of PK/PD/efficacy studies using small molecule drug candidates in mouse tumor models.
  • Contribute to decision-making on small molecule drug discovery teams.
  • Work closely with Early Target Biology team to perform in vivo validation studies using genetic tools for novel oncology targets.
  • Establish best practices for developing, characterizing and documenting methods (e.g. IACUC protocols) for a range of rodent tumor models in-house.
  • Anticipate project-by-project needs for tumor models, pharmacodynamic, efficacy endpoints and establish capabilities pro-actively.
  • Develop in vitro methods for analyzing pharmacodynamic endpoints in tumor and normal tissues from rodent studies (qPCR, Western blot, HTRF, etc).
  • Work with contract research organizations and academic collaborators to access novel tumor models and patient-derived xenografts.
  • Maintain excellent communication across internal and external team members to ensure project challenges and issues are understood and needs are met. 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. degree in pharmacology, biology, or related discipline.
  • 5-10 years of hands-on experience supporting small molecule drugs through lead optimization to candidate selection, with broad knowledge across multiple disciplines including cancer biology and pharmacology.
  • Experience working collaboratively with IACUC and vivarium staff to ensure studies are executed with the highest standards, following self-written protocols.
  • Demonstrated leadership within in vivo pharmacology working on a multidisciplinary project teams through all stages of small molecule discovery.
  • Hands-on experience in rodent handling, husbandry, dosing, tumor model development, surgery, dissection with demonstrated ability to teach and mentor.
