We are seeking a highly motivated research associate with a demonstrated track record of successes to join our dynamic biology drug discovery team. This candidate will serve a critical role in establishing and running cell-based assays to inform target biology and help drive our small molecule drug discovery programs. This position is ideal for a talented, highly motivated and results-driven individual who will thrive in a fast-paced, innovative, start-up environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designing and executing experiments to inform target biology using a variety of approaches, including cell line engineering, analysis of signaling pathways and characterization of cell death mechanism(s)
  • Developing and executing cell-based assays with genetically manipulated cells and small molecule inhibitors
  • Designing and conducting mechanism of action studies on small molecule inhibitors
  • Developing pharmacodynamic readouts for novel oncology targets
  • Utilizing knockdown or knockout and over-expression of proteins for target validation
  • Using decision making, organizational and communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues in data science, chemo-proteomics and medicinal chemistry
  • Presenting data and findings at various venues, including project team, department and company meetings

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S./M.S. in Biology or a related field
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant laboratory experience
  • A deep and broad understanding of cell culture, assay implementation and data processing with excellent scientific rigor

We are seeking a highly motivated, scientific leader with a deep knowledge of cancer biology and a demonstrated track record of success in target validation and elucidation of the mechanistic basis of selective dependencies to join our team in South San Francisco. The successful candidate will lead a group of biologists developing and implementing cutting edge molecular/cell/biochemistry techniques to determine essential target functions by testing mechanistic disease hypotheses in disease-relevant model systems. The team will generate data packages enabling the triaging and prioritization of targets identified by our data sciences and chemical proteomics teams based on an understanding of genomic data, function, mechanistic relevance to disease biology, and therapeutic index.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a high functioning team of research biologists and supervise, mentor and develop junior PhDs and associates
  • Conceive, communicate and execute on multi-disciplinary research strategies for in depth target validation, elucidating mechanistic biology to inform targeting modality, and biomarker identification to generate hypotheses for early patient stratification
  • Keep up to date with the latest scientific advances in technologies and trends in oncology research and development to deliver the next generation of oncology discovery therapies
  • Coordinate research activities and effectively allocate resources between internal staff, external collaborators and CROs for maximum efficiency on deliverables
  • Proactively communicate strategy, critical issues and recommendations to enable appropriate resource decisions
  • Maintain excellent communication across internal and external team members

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. with a focus on cancer biology, cell or molecular biology, genetics or a closely related area of study
  • At least 10 years of post-graduate work in oncology research, with 5+ year of industry experience and a deep knowledge of cancer biology
  • A strong record of achievement, including advancing targets into the drug discovery portfolio and publications in high-impact journals
  • Leading and mentoring a group of Ph.D. and non-Ph.D. scientists and facilitating their contributions to project teams in an industry setting
  • A deep and broad understanding of cutting edge genetic engineering technologies

  • Proficiency with a broad range of modern computational chemistry techniques
  • Experience with full Schrödinger software suite a plus

We are seeking a highly motivated Computational Biologist to join our Data Science team. This role will provide exposure to multiple phases of drug discovery and development, with a mission to leverage information-rich datasets to validate targets, elucidate mechanism of action, and inform patient selection strategy. The successful candidate will interface closely with colleagues across the company, and be a key contributor on a diverse, multidisciplinary team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify and evaluate novel therapeutic targets through mining large -omics datasets
  • Analyze data from high-throughput molecular assays including RNAseq, scRNAseq and CRISPR screens
  • Work in close collaboration with scientists from target identification and validation group contributing to experimental design
  • Provide interpretation and analysis of results and present findings in cross-functional project team meetings.
  • Maintain excellent communication across internal and external team members

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Statistics, or other quantitative field
  • Strong coding skills, fluency in using R or Python for complex data analysis
  • Experience in analysis of RNAseq, WES and WGS data
  • Strong understanding of relevant concepts in cancer biology and molecular biology
  • Understanding of current best-practices for high-throughput genomics/molecular data analyses and their underlying statistical principles
  • Experience in network/pathway mapping and integration of orthogonal omics datasets
  • Experience with AWS compute environment is highly preferred
  • Experience with R-Shiny/data visualization is a plus
